kids! Veronika of Plaided did a special flyer to promote their show at the N I L  D E S P E R A N D U M next saturday (rhiz, vienna - january 28th, 2012). whooha! this show is like an upbeat for all the great plans in 2012… the travels and the recordings they are about to do. makes me wish i was them. mhm.

oh well. and who’s playing all the cool songs for you to dance to? the great gloriaviktoria (v-team, Vortex Rex, Go Die Big City) i already had the pleassure to DJ with last fall at the gönner; and tomgirl … which appears to be one out of a thousand aliases our beloved sissyboy has. who is, by the way, host and curator of the very best club in town - the before mentioned N I L  D E S P E R A N D U M. 

here’s another story about a person i became friends with in the last couple of months. his name is Turbo. Turbo is best known for running a tape label from graz, austria called wilhelm show me the major label. i am not sure if it is run only by him, as the WSMTML universe seems pretty decentralized. we first met in 2008 at steirischer herbst, when i was working for Krawalla, doing the bear for Räuberhöhle. Turbo was taking good care of us two the whole evening; telling us about Fäidaball and the label. i had heard of wilhelm and Lady Lynch before, a band he was playing in at the time. in fact: Lady Lynch started the same time as Vortex Rex and Fettkakao did. i have also seen Turbo playing in Black Fox Tropikal and Telly Is The Tube, but i guess he’s (been) involved in other projects as well.

i am happy he is coming all the way from graz to share the DJ set w/ me at the Elektro Gönner on Febuary 15th, 2012.

woah. this was like a christmas present or new years gift. Plaided are playing with Versus at the lexington in london on march 09th, 2012. thanks to george from damnably, the label that brought Shonen Knife over to europe last summer.

it is a big present, since veronika and me are big Versus fans. the band that had so so good songs on the teenbeat compilations (like white power porch, teenbeat sampler 1997), but i can recommend all records to you anyway (start with secret swingers nonethelss). their last record, on the ones and threes, that came out in 2010 on merge, is very nice as well. 

on the evening at the lexington, another nice band is playing: smallgang. just found out how nice their tunes are! check them out too!

for the next fettkakao dj club thingie at elektro gönner my guest will be rita. you may know rita from her performance with ana threat, under the moniker rita rumble.

but you might as well just know her, because rita has a lot of friends everywhere. she knows all the gossip (i heard) and people by name. 

i first met rita… well. i met her pretty early in my teenage years. if i recall it right she came all the way from klagenfurt (austrias south) to hardcore punk shows at the tu-club or ekh in vienna with a friend. but i remember talking to her first when we played with the beat happening cover band in klagenfurt 2003 with valina. i was hungry after the show and rita invited me over to her flat to prepare some spaghetti for me. it was life saving as i had no idea where in klagenfurt i would get vegan food late at night. also. while eating, she and rudi showed me the first gravy train!!!! record, and went to a late night swim at the woerthersee the same night. i really liked my klagenfurt experience that day/night. thanks to rita, rudi and some friends i would be making years later who have been at the show/ late night swim as well.

i dont know if we have changed much. of course we did. but we still love hunx, rock and roll and see each other pretty often at shows and parties.

i’m glad rita and me are sharing the dj thing together at the elektro gönner, on january 18th, 2012.

floli of the sex jams band and bernhard fuchs did some prints for the show tomorrow at the chelesa (sex jams || killed by nine volt batteries). the prints will be availble at the venue on the show day.

hey there’s a new show confirmed for the Gurlfriends! they are playing with the cool kids from Pontiak! the show takes place febuary 27th, 2012 at the arena in vienna. i was drawing a flyer for that happening. piep.

Melanie Friedl is going to hang portraits she was making of her friends with her iPhone (just for this exhibition) on the walls of the LOVE_ gallery from next saturday (december 10th) on. melanie knows a lot of cool people, and is a very inspiring and supportive person. her arts need to be seen in my opinion, that’s why you have the chance to go and see those pictures at the love_ gallery between december 10th and 31st in vienna.

there will be some happenings in those 21 days. they need to be planned first, and as soon as we have ideas we will send those out digitally and be talking about it. the projekt LOVE_ doesnt not have regular opening hours, but if you let me know in time we will come and open up the gallery for you. here’s my email adress for that occasion.
